How to maximise my browser’s window?

Drag and drop the following line of text (it’s a javascript) to your Safari’s Bookmarks Bar (or Firefox’s Bookmark Toolbar).

javascript:self.moveTo(0,0);self.resizeTo(screen.availWidth,screen.availHeight);

To maximize, just click on the newly created bookmark.

You can change “screen.availWidth,screen.availHeight” to “1024,768” if you want a window of 1024×768 pixels in size, for instance.

Q: How to “Show the Desktop”?
A: You can use Exposé Desktop (default activation is F11).

BTW, maximizing every app’s window is an old habit you should break. Mac has never been designed to use maximised windows. Long-time Mac users will tell you it’s counter-productive, and one of the worse “feature” of copycat Microsoft. Kick the habit and re-learn how to use windows correctly.
